With working from home now a new norm, one of the many things people are doing to prevent overshooting their monthly expenses is cooking at home.
However, it's not an easy task to find recipes that are not only quick and easy to make with just a few ingredients, but tasty.
Enter Malaysian politician Hannah Yeoh who recently started an IGTV series titled, Dapur Hanayo. The title is an obvious play on the local pronunciation of her name.
Easy, quick, and tasty recipes.
To date, the Segambut Member of Parliament has uploaded two videos – both less than two minutes long, detailing how to cook some yummy butter chicken and fried fish.
"I'm not good at cooking. But ever since the Movement Control Order (MCO), I've been learning bit by bit from YouTube. I always try looking for easy-to-make recipes that take less than five minutes because I'm not a pro chef," Hannah says in one of her video captions.
While the videos themselves are light-hearted, revealing some relatable events that only happen in the kitchen, such as struggling to remove bones from piping hot fried fish, the lawmaker believes her videos will help mothers working from home.
"This is for all the working people, a very simple recipe if you haven't got much time to cook. Try it!" her caption for the fried fish reads.
Targeting the youth and women.
While it's easy to make light of Hannah's attempts, what she's doing is actually brilliant.
According to social media management tool, NapoleonCat, as of February 2020, there are 11.49 million Instagram users in Malaysia. That's 34.4 percent of the country's population.
Out of the figure, 54 percent are women with people between the ages of 25 to 34 forming the largest group – 4.2 million.
I'll certainly give the butter chicken recipe a try. Keep the recipes coming, Hannah!
