Another case of curious baby-naming in Indonesia has resulted in an infant failing to get his birth verified by officials.
According to local news sources, the couple of Arif Akbar and Suci Nur Aisyiah – despite trying for three years – have failed to receive a birth certificate for their son after it was deemed that his chosen name was way too long.
The name of the baby boy? Rangga Madhipa Sutra Jiwa Cordosega Akre Askhala Mughal Ilkhanat Akbar Sahara Pi-Thariq Ziyad Syaifudin Quthuz Khoshala Sura Talenta.
Or just Cordo for short.
Explaining the choice of his son's name, the father Arif said that he'd intended to name his kid after historical personalities and locales as to encourage his boy to grow up into a "global figure" with an open view of the world, as opposed to being narrow-minded and ignorant.
He also said that the name contained philosophical connotations significant to him and his wife, along with their prayers for his future.
"He'll have a global outlook and the power to realize his dreams," he said to Indonesian news portal Detik. "He'll become a person who doesn't have limited thinking nor narrow views, but has a global outlook with the initiative and strength to accomplish his goals. He'll be strong, but also compassionate."
Officially unnamed.
But for the past three years since the boy's birth, Cordo has since failed to receive a valid name due to officials from the civil registry refusing to accept the enormous length of his moniker, which contains no less 46 syllables spanning a total of 132 characters.
Crucially, this length goes way past the limit of 55 characters allowed for any individual who wishes to be able to process their national documents, as stated by the country's Ministry of Home Affairs.
"We've been trying for three years to get his birth certificate," said Arif. "But every time we've visited the agency, we were told to wait."
"The last time we went, we were offered the option to change my son's name," he added, while also saying that he and his wife would refuse to budge on the decision.
As a last resort, the couple have recently written directly to Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) with a plea for their son's name to be legitimized in time before he begins attending school in two years.
"Our letter to you is our last resort, and a display of our sadness," their letter read. "Some might ask why pick such a name, but our way indicates that a person's name is also their character, pride, prayer, and hope."
As of right now, the president has yet to respond to the couple, although many are curious as to what his response will be.
