One would argue that the casting for Netflix's monumental hit, Squid Game, was on point.
And many would agree that VIP 4, the rich man who attempted to rape undercover cop Hwang Jun-Ho (Wi Ha-Joon), was an especially disturbing character in the series.
A video of Geoffrey Giuliano – the actor who played VIP 4 – dating back to 2017 has resurfaced, showing that he may have been perfectly casted for the role.
A-grade asshole on the screen, and perhaps in real life too.
According to a 2017 Daily Mail story, shared on Asian-American community subreddit r/aznidentity, Giuliano was filmed going on some sort of self-absorbed rant at a supermarket in Pattaya, Thailand – reportedly his place of residence.
The person who filmed the video, a French expat, says he started filming the man after he had supposedly cut in front of him at the express checkout counter, which limits customers to just 10 items or less. However, Giuliano had brought with him much more than that, roughly 25.
“You’re not intimidating me by that camera, I’m an actor," Giuliano says to the person filming.
“??I’m an American, I do what I want, we’re the kings of the world, okay? We’re professional assholes. We have taken being assholes to the highest possible fucking level in this world.”
At this point, what he says makes it extremely difficult to distinguish any difference between his real-life personality and his on-screen persona in Squid Game.
While one could easily pass this off as a one-time incident (perhaps he was just having a bad day?), Giuliano's past antics don't really help his case. In 2016, Giuliano courted controversy and intense ire from fans of The Beatles when he reportedly withheld the secret wedding photos of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, which he claims to have 'borrowed' for a biography he was writing of the band.
He even went as far as calling himself 'the world's greatest rock 'n roller biographer'.
Also in the same year, he posted a series of videos on his YouTube channel, promoting a website called DateThaiLadies.com, generalizing and fetishizing Thai women for what we can only assume are seedy white men looking for a Thai lover.
On the press section of Giuliano's official website, he even shares screenshots of various media reports featuring his role in Squid Game, including one that talks about the man himself getting 'sexual invitations' after his performance on the show. Either the man's confident, or just filled with a tad bit too much braggadocio.
Again, perfect casting, I guess?
