Calling all cat lovers, grumpy people, and those who feel a strong connection to a certain orange cat who loves lasagna and lazing around! Your spirit animal is now a small, cardboard cat chilling around in Singapore.
Displayed at the Malay Heritage Centre, the "farm" installation piece by mural artist Yip Yew Chong has seen its latest addition in the form of a fat, grouchy cat who perfectly captures the inner grumps in all of us.

The installation was previously displayed at Marina Bay last month, consisting of 24 ducks and 22 chickens, which were all hand-painted on plastic perforated boards by Yip. Lazing among these cute little birds, the chubby cat is tasked to 'jaga' them.
A celebration of Singaporean culture.
Known for his stunning and realistic murals, Yip has a number of works scattered around heritage neighborhoods in Singapore. One of his recent works was a three-storey mural on 30 Temple Street in Chinatown, a massive feat he accomplished in four weeks. The murals were well-received by locals, with many recreating the different poses in the murals, and marveling at the homage to Singaporean culture.
He also paid homage to his parents in a sweet way. He painted a typical coffeeshop scene, naming the coffeeshop after his late father, and painting his mother twice in the mural. He also joked that he painted himself in the mural twice too.
When art gets metaphorical.
Those who have visited the Malay Heritage Centre before would have been able to catch their previous exhibition "Paw-verbs on the Lawn", an exhibition featuring various cat illustrations created by Japanese artist Juno. The standees featured common Malay proverbs that use cats as a metaphor. And they're pretty cute.
Just this month, the annual Singapore Art Week was held, celebrating Singaporean art through virtual art experiences and public art tours and talks. And while the art week has just ended, you can still look around public areas for unique murals and art structures.
Cat lover or not, you have to admit these works of art are really something else!
