There's an NFT-themed ice cream parlor in Malaysia and we got to try it

If you love NFTs and ice cream, there's a place in Malaysia where you should go to geek out about crypto while enjoying your favorite dessert.

Famed Malaysia-based ice cream parlor Crème De La Crème (CDLC) recently opened its NFT-themed ice cream parlor at Sunway Pyramid and Mashable Southeast Asia's community manager Anne Nunis had the opportunity to try out some of these ice creams.

Four of their ice creams were inspired by popular blue-chip NFTs, such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, Moonbirds, Doodles, and Gutter Cat Gang.

But what takes the cake (or ice cream) is the fact that CDLC also owns US$1 million worth of NFTs. All of these are displayed in the parlor's screens. You can also get CDLC to display yours too!

Meet the 4 NFT-themed flavors at Crème De La Crème.

Doodles.

Only 100 percent natural ingredients such as Butterfly Pea Flower, lychee sorbet, peach sorbet, and Madagascar vanilla ice cream were used to create the fantasy-esque color palette of this dreamy looking ice cream.

Anne's verdict:

It’s a pretty swirl of ice cream that predominantly tastes like lychee because of the sorbet. Out of the three flavors, it’s the most subtle and light, yet it’s one to try for those who love lychee, and sorbet flavors.

CryptoPunk.

Taking inspiration from the Alien-skin of CryptoPunk #5822 – which sold for a record-breaking US$23.7 million – this creamy, rich ice cream is made possible through handcrafted Australian cream cheese ice cream swirled with Butterfly Pea Flower ice cream. To add the finishing touch, it's decked with decadent burnt cheesecake chunks. Yummy!

Anne's verdict:

It’s very rich and decadent. The texture is dense but makes for a nice and filling scoop of ice cream. The cream cheese flavor is very strong, and it's got a unique richness to it that makes it stand out among the three. You must definitely love cheese to enjoy this, and if you do love cheese, you can’t go wrong with this choice.

Bored Ape.

Of course, no NFT-themed ice cream is complete without the Bored Ape collection. CDLC says this ice cream is made from delicious French milk chocolate ice cream swirled with caramelized bananas and freshly baked chocolate crumble.

Anne's verdict:

It’s definitely one for those who love bananas. The texture is dense like CryptoPunk, with a strong banana flavor. The baked chocolate crumble – which was made from scratch like everything in the parlor – gave a nice crunch to the ice cream, which elevated the whole flavor. Overall, a solid choice for ice cream.

Moonbirds.

Created by hand from a myriad of premium ingredients that include ultra-grade Kyoto matcha ice cream, coffee ice cream, mascarpone ice cream, and homemade coffee spice crumble, this is a caffeine-packed artistic dessert. Avoid eating it at night.

Anne's verdict:

This dessert takes the cake on presentation alone. The inside has a mix of three different ice cream flavors, that compliment each other wonderfully. While the coffee ice cream is strong, when mixed with the matcha, it becomes a perfect balance that is further enhanced by the chocolate coating. Also, it’s a cute dessert!

CDLC also serves artisanal ice creams and petits g?teaux that you'd find in its other outlets. However, the NFT-themed ice creams are exclusively available at its Sunway Pyramid outlet from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.
