Jho Low, ko di mane? 'Billion Dollar Whale' authors start manhunt for 1MDB fugitive

It was just a few days ago on August 23, 2022, that Najib Razak became the first-ever former Malaysian Prime Minister to be sent to jail, with a sentence of 12 years. The highest court in Malaysia upheld his guilty verdict, adding on a RM210 million (US$46.8 million) fine to sweeten the deal.

With Najib behind bars, the authors of international best-seller Billion Dollar Whale have officially launched a manhunt for Low Taek Jho, otherwise known as Jho Low.

Billion Dollar Whale, written by Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, details the steps Low took to pull off quite possibly the biggest heist in recent history, allegedly siphoning US$1.42 billion from three separate bond transactions arranged by Goldman Sachs for Malaysia's sovereign wealth fund – 1MDB, or 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

The fact that he managed to do this undetected also adds to the drama of the entire scandal. After Najib's government lost the 2018 general elections, Low went into hiding – because 'innocent' people do that, right?

Since then, global authorities have struggled to pinpoint his exact whereabouts. Some speculate Low may have even undergone plastic surgery to change his appearance.

So this is where Wright and Hope come in. The authors have officially launched a public manhunt for the runaway fugitive, taking to Twitter to call upon the "citizen investigative army" to share any possible leads they may have.
